Deadline: 17 October, 2025

To: All Members of PLaCE International Research Network

A fantastic project that we would like to share with all of you is the addition of a Working Creative Praxis & Papers section on our website. We have long been intending to offer a ‘publishing’ option, with the purpose of expanding the exposure of our work and encouraging feedback and responses which helps each other to benefit from the shared expertise and interests within our collective group. Now we have set in place a way to create more exposure for draft papers and for sharing creative practice outcomes.

When you visit our website, we have added a ‘Working Creative Praxis & Papers' item to the navigation menu. We will use this as a platform to share our members’ working papers and creative practice outcomes. This sharing of work for the purpose of feedback is considered as ‘pre-publishing’.

We are collaborating with the University of Dundee’s Open Research and Publishing team to assign DOIs, Open Access reuse licences, and benefit from storing these works in the University of Dundee’s research repository, Discovery. This provides greater visibility and security to your works than simply being published on the website.

Important to Note:

PLaCE International provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. Authors retain copyright to their works and are required to consent to the network to allow distribution and reuse. Works will be available online on the PLaCE International website and the University of Dundee’s research repository, Discovery. A unique Digital Object Identifier (DOI) will be assigned to the work and a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) licence applied, to allow distribution and reuse, unless otherwise discussed.

These will not be peer-reviewed publications and as such, will not affect your ability to submit work to peer-reviewed journals, a book chapter, or other forms of academic publishing. You, as the author/maker, retain all intellectual property rights of your works.

Copyright and Creative Commons statement:

We will be licensing content under an open Creative Commons licence, CC BY, which promotes wider dissemination but for certain contributions such as artworks, a more restrictive Creative Commons licence can be chosen, if the author wishes, for example: Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND). Please reach out to us with any questions.

Submission:

Here is what we need from you if you wish to share your Working Papers and/or Creative Praxis as Open Access according to the above understanding:

For:

  • Papers: with or without images, please add a cover page with your name, title, and date.

  • Artworks: please add a cover page, with your name, title, medium, size (if relevant) and date of completion. Also, please consider adding a brief artist’s statement or the context of this work.

  • Please ensure to add this message:

Copyright © 2025 The Author. Open Access licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence, unless otherwise stated.

The images or other third-party material in this article are included in the article’s Creative Commons licence, unless indicated otherwise in a credit line to the material. If material is not included in the article’s Creative Commons licence and your intended use is not permitted by statutory regulation or exceeds the permitted use, you will need to obtain permission directly from the copyright holder.

  • Please make sure all images are fully captioned, and if you have images from others, please make sure that you have written permission to reproduce and include it in your submission.

If you have any technical questions, please contact our PDRA, Dr Katie Hart Potapoff (place.international.uk@gmail.com), who handles the web content for PLaCE International.

The first deadline is 17 October for this initial round of ‘Working Creative Praxis & Papers’. We anticipate another call in January 2026.
